WebQuest

We are creating a WebQuest, which is very new to me. I think they are very neat to explore and students enjoy completing them. When looking at WebQuests that already exist, they are very unique because you can add your own touch to them. I also think it is very helpful that you can add links to your WebQuest if you expect your students to access other resources on the internet. I hope I can remember how to do it when I make my own! Hopefully after learning how to make a WebQuest, I can use it with my own students.

Presentations

The presentations were very informative and interesting. I learned a lot about laptops after researching them, and think they would be very neat to have in the classroom. Smart boards would be a lot of fun and a teacher could use them in many ways. The statistics and things from cyber bullying was shocking. Teachers and parents need to be very aware of what kids are doing on the computer because there is so much on the computer these days. Technology in the classroom can be a great resource to teachers!

Laptops in the classroom

After researching about laptops, I found there are a lot of ways a teacher could utilize them. They would help engage students, but would they also be hard to monitor what all the students are doing. It's amazing that some schools are relying on computers so much because I didn't grow up that way. Overall, I think laptops can be a great resource for both students and teachers.

Powerpoint

Creating the powerpoint in class was something new to me. I couldn't create powerpoint without guidance, even though I've been shown how to do it before. Maybe this time I'll remember how to do it so I can create one on my own or for my classroom use. I think using powerpoint can help engage students and even make the topic more fun to learn about. I would definitely gain more from a powerpoint on anything about history rather than someone talking to me about it.

copyright

I learned a lot of new things about copyright and fair use laws. Many teachers are probably not aware that they are not using copyrighted material in the correct way. I was surprised by some of the laws. Who would of thought you couldn't show a Disney movie at recess. Next time we'll put an educational twist with it! It is important for teachers to be aware of the laws and to follow them as well as they can!

computers in school

Playing the Oregon Trail in grade school is my earliest memory of using a computer in school. Taking keyboarding in junior high and being able to type on computers in the library are other ways I used computers in school. Since then, I've used computers for many other things-email, research, ideas for my classroom, typing. In my second grade classroom, we use the computer to check the weather, type, and look up information. Today I helped a little girl get on the internet to find the answer to a specific question she was asking about a king cobra. We looked in snake books but couldn't find the answer and it was easily found on yahoo.
